Samoyed
The Samoyed is one of the most beautiful and ancient dog breeds in the world, named after the Samoyede people of Siberia who bred these magnificent dogs for over 3,000 years. In the harsh, frozen landscapes of northwestern Siberia, Samoyeds served as all-purpose working dogs β herding reindeer, pulling sleds, guarding camps, and most importantly, keeping their human families warm by sleeping alongside them in tents during brutally cold Arctic nights. This intimate bond between dog and human over millennia has produced a breed with an extraordinarily gentle, people-loving temperament. The Samoyed is instantly recognisable by its stunning, cloud-like white coat and its famous "Sammy smile" β a characteristic upturned mouth that not only gives the dog a perpetually happy expression but also serves a practical purpose: it prevents drool from forming icicles on the face in sub-zero temperatures. Their thick, luxurious double coat is one of the most impressive in the canine world, with a dense, woolly undercoat and longer, silver-tipped guard hairs that give them an almost ethereal, glowing appearance. Samoyed fur is so soft and warm that it has historically been spun into yarn and used for knitting garments. These dogs are wonderfully social, gentle, and playful β they love everyone and expect everyone to love them back. They are excellent with children and get along beautifully with other dogs. Samoyeds have a joyful, almost mischievous personality and retain their puppy-like enthusiasm well into adulthood. In India, the Samoyed is a rare and highly sought-after breed, admired for its breathtaking beauty and warm personality, though its thick Arctic coat makes it extremely heat-sensitive and challenging to keep in most Indian climates.
