πΎ Breed guide
Saluki
The Saluki is one of the oldest known dog breeds, with a history stretching back over 5,000 years to the ancient civilisations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, and Persia. Often called the "Royal Dog of Egypt," Salukis were so revered that they were mummified alongside pharaohs and depicted in tomb paintings. Built for speed and grace, the Saluki is among the fastest dog breeds in the world, capable of reaching speeds up to 70 km/h. Their slender, elegant frame, deep chest, and long legs give them a gazelle-like appearance that is breathtakingly beautiful in motion. Salukis come in two coat varieties β Smooth and Feathered β with the feathered type having silky hair on the ears, legs, and tail. They are gentle, sensitive, and deeply loyal to their family, though they maintain a dignified independence that sets them apart from more eager-to-please breeds. In India, the Saluki is a rare and cherished breed, well-suited to warm climates thanks to their desert heritage. They are quiet, clean, and cat-like in their demeanour.
