Saint Bernard

🐾 Breed guide

Saint Bernard

The Saint Bernard is a true gentle giant, originally bred by monks at the Great St Bernard Hospice in the Swiss Alps to rescue travellers lost in snowstorms. These massive, warm-hearted dogs are legendary for their calm temperament, unwavering loyalty, and incredible patience – especially with children. Despite their imposing size, Saint Bernards are remarkably gentle and affectionate, often unaware of just how large they are. They love being close to their families and are known for their soulful, expressive eyes. In India, Saint Bernards are admired for their majestic appearance and loving nature, though they require a cooler environment and spacious living conditions. They are not overly active dogs but do need daily moderate exercise to stay healthy. Their drooling is legendary, and prospective owners should be prepared for slobber. Saint Bernards are wonderfully patient with children and make outstanding family companions for those who can accommodate their size.
