πΎ Breed guide
Newfoundland
The Newfoundland is a true gentle giant of the dog world β a massive, powerful breed with a heart of pure gold. Originally bred as a working dog for fishermen in Newfoundland, Canada, these dogs are legendary swimmers with webbed feet, a water-resistant double coat, and a natural instinct to rescue people from water. Newfoundlands have saved countless lives throughout history, earning them the title "the lifeguard dog." Despite their enormous size β they can weigh as much as a full-grown adult β Newfoundlands are famously gentle, patient, and sweet-tempered. They are often called "nanny dogs" for their extraordinary patience and protectiveness with children. In literature, the beloved Nana from Peter Pan was a Newfoundland. In India, the Newfoundland is a rare and majestic breed, admired for its gentle disposition and impressive stature. However, their thick, heavy coat and large size make them highly sensitive to heat, and they require a cool living environment. They are calm indoors and do not need excessive exercise, but they do need space. A Newfoundland in the family means a devoted, drool-prone, bear-like companion that will love you unconditionally.
