Maine Coon
The Maine Coon is the largest domesticated cat breed and is often called the "gentle giant" of the feline world. Native to the state of Maine in the United States, where it is the official state cat, the Maine Coon is believed to have descended from longhaired cats brought by seafarers to the New England coast. These magnificent cats can weigh up to 11 kg and measure over a metre in length from nose to tail tip. Despite their impressive size, Maine Coons are remarkably gentle, sociable, and affectionate. They are often described as "dog-like" in their behaviour β they follow their owners around the house, enjoy playing fetch, and some even enjoy water. Maine Coons have a distinctive appearance with their tufted ears, large paws (built as natural snowshoes), bushy raccoon-like tail, and a luxurious shaggy coat. They are intelligent, curious, and maintain a kitten-like playfulness well into adulthood. In India, the Maine Coon is a highly sought-after breed, admired for its majestic size, friendly temperament, and ability to get along with children, other cats, and even dogs.
