Havanese

The Havanese is the national dog of Cuba and the only breed native to the island. Descended from the now-extinct Blanquito de la Habana and the Bichon Tenerife, the Havanese was the beloved companion of Cuban aristocracy and wealthy families throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. These charming little dogs are often called "Velcro dogs" because they attach themselves so closely to their owners – they want to be by your side every moment of every day. Havanese are incredibly social, outgoing, and have a natural talent for making people laugh with their clownish antics and springy, bouncing gait. They are surprisingly sturdy for their size and are among the most trainable of the toy breeds, excelling in obedience, agility, and even as therapy dogs. Their long, silky coat is hypoallergenic, making them an excellent choice for allergy sufferers. In India, the Havanese is a rare but growing breed, perfect for apartment living thanks to their small size, moderate exercise needs, and adaptable nature. They thrive on human companionship and do not do well when left alone for long periods.
