🐾 Breed guide

English Mastiff

The English Mastiff is one of the largest and most ancient dog breeds in the world, with a history that stretches back thousands of years. These colossal dogs were used by the Romans in gladiatorial arenas, served as war dogs in medieval battles, and guarded estates of English nobility. An adult male Mastiff can weigh over 100 kg, making them one of the heaviest breeds in existence. Yet despite their enormous size and fearsome history, modern English Mastiffs are remarkably gentle, calm, and affectionate. They are often described as "gentle giants" who prefer lounging on the sofa to any strenuous activity. Mastiffs are deeply loyal to their families and are naturally protective – their sheer size and deep bark are usually enough to deter any intruder. They are wonderfully patient with children and have a calm, dignified presence that brings a sense of peace to any home. In India, the English Mastiff is a rare and impressive breed that commands attention wherever it goes. Their low exercise needs make them surprisingly manageable despite their size, though they do require spacious living conditions and careful management of their diet and joint health.
