Dachshund
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "sausage dog" or "wiener dog," is one of the most recognisable breeds in the world thanks to its distinctive long body and short legs. Originally bred in Germany over 300 years ago to hunt badgers β their name literally means "badger dog" β Dachshunds are far braver and more tenacious than their small size suggests. They come in two sizes (Standard and Miniature) and three coat varieties (Smooth, Wirehaired, and Longhaired), offering something for every preference. Dachshunds are fiercely loyal and develop deep bonds with their owners. They have a bold, sometimes stubborn personality with a surprisingly loud bark for their size, making them excellent watchdogs. In India, Dachshunds are loved for their compact size, low exercise needs, and quirky, entertaining personality. Their elongated body does require special care to protect their spine, but with the right precautions, they make delightful, long-lived companions.
