πΎ Breed guide
Chihuahua
The Chihuahua is the smallest dog breed in the world but possesses one of the biggest personalities in the canine kingdom. Named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua, these tiny dogs have ancient roots tracing back to the Toltec and Aztec civilisations. Chihuahuas are fiercely loyal to their chosen person and form an intensely devoted bond β they are often called "velcro dogs" because they love sticking close to their owner. Despite their diminutive size, they are bold, confident, and will not hesitate to stand their ground against much larger dogs. They come in two coat varieties β Smooth (short-haired) and Long coat β and in a dazzling array of colours. In India, Chihuahuas are popular among city dwellers and apartment owners due to their tiny size and minimal exercise needs. They are alert, expressive, and make surprisingly effective watchdogs with their sharp bark. With proper socialisation, they can be wonderful, long-lived companions.
