Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is the quintessential lap dog – a breed that was literally created to be the perfect companion. Named after King Charles II of England, who was famously inseparable from his spaniels, this breed has a centuries-long history of warming royal laps and winning hearts. Cavaliers are gentle, graceful, and endlessly affectionate, with large, expressive eyes that seem to radiate warmth and empathy. They are remarkably adaptable – equally happy on a brisk walk as they are curled up on the sofa. Unlike many toy breeds, Cavaliers retain their sporting spaniel instincts and genuinely enjoy outdoor activities, chasing butterflies, and exploring gardens. - Brush their silky coat 3–4 times a week to prevent tangles, especially behind the ears
- Regular ear cleaning is important – their long, floppy ears are prone to infections
- Keep them cool in hot weather – they can be sensitive to extreme heat
- Regular cardiac check-ups are essential – the breed is predisposed to mitral valve disease
- They thrive on companionship and should not be left alone for long periods
