Basset Hound
The Basset Hound is one of the most endearing and recognisable dog breeds, famous for its droopy eyes, velvety-long ears, and low-slung, heavy-boned body. Bred in France β "basset" means "low" in French β this breed was developed to track rabbits and hare, using its extraordinary sense of smell that is second only to the Bloodhound. Basset Hounds are the ultimate laid-back companions β patient, gentle, and wonderfully easygoing. They move through life at their own leisurely pace and are perfectly happy with a comfortable spot on the sofa and a slow, sniff-filled walk. Their doleful expression hides a surprisingly stubborn and independent mind β when a Basset picks up an interesting scent, very little will distract them. Despite their heavy build, they are remarkably sturdy and athletic when motivated. In India, Basset Hounds are appreciated for their calm temperament, low exercise needs, and charming personality. They are excellent family dogs who get along wonderfully with children and other pets. Their deep, melodious bark and occasional howl add character to any household.
