Tibetan Spaniel
The Tibetan Spaniel is an ancient breed that has been a cherished companion in Tibetan monasteries for over 2,000 years. Despite the "Spaniel" in their name, they are not true spaniels and have no hunting heritage β the name was given by European travellers who noted a passing resemblance to toy spaniels. In the monasteries, these little dogs served as watchdogs, perching on high walls and alerting monks to approaching visitors, earning them the nickname "little lions." Tibetan Spaniels are confident, intelligent, and have a charmingly independent streak that sets them apart from more clingy toy breeds. They are deeply loyal to their families and can be reserved with strangers, making them alert and effective watchdogs. Their expressive, almost human-like face and flowing mane give them a regal, lion-like appearance. In India, the Tibetan Spaniel is well-suited to the climate, especially in northern regions, and thrives in apartments due to their small size and moderate exercise needs. They are quiet, clean, and form strong bonds with their owners.
