πΎ Breed guide
Alaskan Malamute
The Alaskan Malamute is one of the oldest and most powerful Arctic sled dog breeds, originally bred by the Mahlemut Inuit people of Alaska for hauling heavy loads across vast frozen landscapes. Built for strength and endurance rather than speed, Malamutes are larger and more robust than their Siberian Husky cousins. They have a wolf-like appearance with a broad head, erect ears, and a beautifully plumed tail that curls over their back. Despite their imposing size, Malamutes are incredibly affectionate and social β they love people and consider everyone a friend, which makes them poor guard dogs but wonderful family companions. They are pack-oriented dogs that thrive on being part of the family. In India, Alaskan Malamutes are admired for their majestic looks but require special care due to their thick double coat and preference for cold climates. They need plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and a committed owner who understands their independent yet loving nature.
